Who is Afraid of Ideology? Parts 1+2 @Dar Bellarj
Dar Bellarj, in dialogue with LE 18 & QANAT for Harvest Festival Marrakech present ‘Who is Afraid of Ideology’ dir. Marwa Arsanios, 2017. Following the presentation of ‘Who is Afraid of Ideology – Part IV: Reverse Shot’ during the last Ch[a]rita festival, for Harvest Festival Marrakech we invite you to join us for the screening of the first two films of the series, followed by a Q&A with the artist, at Dar Bellarj.
‘Who is Afraid of Ideology’ is a series of four films by Marwa Arsanios that explore the impact of war on our relationship with nature, by observing eco-feminist practices in conflict zones. The series continues Arsanious ongoing research of ideas stemming from mid-twentieth century modernisation through contemporary perspectives. Arsanios is particularly concerned with gender dynamics, urbanism, industrialization and agriculture.
Marwa Arsanios is an artist, a filmmaker and a researcher. She pursues a collaborative and cross-disciplinary research practice and reconsiders the politics of the mid-twentieth century from a contemporary perspective. Solo exhibitions include The Mosaic Rooms, London (2022); Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (2021); Škuc Gallery, Ljubljana (2018); Beirut Art Center (2017); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2016); FKA Witte de With, Rotterdam (2016); Kunsthalle Lissabon, Lisbon (2015); and Art in General, New York (2015). QANAT is a collective platform that explores the politics and poetics of water in Morocco and beyond to reflect and act upon the multiple contextual understandings and forms of (re)production of the commons.
